The Powder Coating Process can be broken down into 3 steps: Pre-treatment, Powder application, and Curing the coating.

  • Pre-treat the Aluminum Surface
    The pre-treatment process involves removing dust, grease, and any other foreign particles. Then the part is stripped – this removes previous coatings. Finally the part is sandblasted. This stage cleans the part down to bare metal and creates a texture on the substrate which allows the powder coating to adhere to it. After a final clean the part is ready.
  • Applying Powder
    The technician sprays the powder through an electrostatic spray gun. The positive charge makes the powder bond with an electrically-grounded extrusion.
  • Heat Aluminum Profiles in the Curing Oven
    The technician puts the extrusions into a large curing oven. The oven bakes the extrusions until you have a uniformly-melted coating.
  • Cool the Extrusions
    After the extrusions are baked, the technician removes them so they can cool off. Once cool, you’ll have a smooth, hardened coating.
